Six to Eight Years

Skilled at using scissors and small tools

Enjoys testing muscle strength and skills

Good sense of balance

Can catch small balls

Can tie shoelaces

Enjoys copying designs and shapes, letters and numbers

Can print name

Long arms and legs may give gawky awkward appearance

 

Six to Eight Years

I could color and cut on the lines once I started kindergarten.  I was good at art.
I still remained active and had trouble sitting still when I was bored.
I could throw and catch and I played "T-ball" during the summer.
I learned to tie my own shoes and I could even help my friends tie their shoes, too.
I could write all my letters and numbers in kindergarten. 
I could write my own name before I started kindergarten.
I lost my first tooth earlier and now my new teeth are coming in.
I like to play outside and also I really like to spend time in our pool.  I am a good swimmer.
I started swimming lessons at this age.
I got my first pair of glasses.

Nine to Eleven Years

Girls are generally as much as 2 years ahead of boys in physical

More maturity

Girls may begin to menstruate

There is an increases body strength and hand dexterity

Improves coordination and reaction time

Nine to Eleven

I had to start wearing a bra in 3rd grade.
I was more mature in my body than some of my friends.
The girls could outrun some of the boys during recess.
I was on my first basketball team during 5th grade.
I gained weight and sometimes people called me fat.
